§01 The real problem

It was never a motivation problem

Monday goes well. You are up early, the session gets done, the food is sorted, and for about three days it genuinely feels like this time is different.

Then Wednesday runs long. A meeting overruns, you get home late, and training is the thing that gives, because it is the only thing in that day nobody else is relying on. Thursday you are tired from Wednesday. By Friday the week is written off. The weekend undoes most of what was left, and by Sunday night you have already told yourself you will start again on Monday.

You have run that loop for years. Possibly since the last time it worked.

Here is the part nobody says out loud. You did not fail at the plan. The plan was built for somebody with a different life. Five sessions a week, every meal weighed, a schedule that quietly assumes nothing ever overruns. That works brilliantly for people whose time is their own. You are not one of those people, and you were never going to become one.

You do not need more discipline. You need a plan that survives a bad week.

§02 Method
How it works

Four steps, and none of them are complicated

  1. The call

Fifteen minutes. What you have tried before, what got in the way, and what your week genuinely looks like. If it is not a fit, you will hear that on the call rather than after you have paid for something.

  2. A plan built round your week

Training and food designed against the time you actually have, not the time a textbook assumes you have. It has to survive a Wednesday that overruns, because that Wednesday is coming.

  3. Weekly check ins

Every week you look at what happened, what did not, and why. Not to be told off. To work out which part of the plan is fighting your life and needs changing.

  4. Adjustments as life changes

A busy quarter, a holiday, illness, a new baby, a house move. The plan bends round it instead of breaking, which is the whole reason it keeps working past week six.

§03 The coaching
Anywhere in the UK

1-to-1 online personal training

Training, food and check ins built round your schedule, wherever you train.

For people whose weeks are unpredictable and whose gym is whatever is nearest. Your programme and check ins sit in the CAL.507 app, and you message Paul directly on WhatsApp in between. There is no assistant and no handover.

§04 The coach
The person behind it

Paul Callender

Paul Callender

CAL.507 is Paul Callender, an online personal trainer and coach based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He coaches clients 1-to-1 online across the UK, working almost entirely with people who have busy jobs and full weeks rather than spare time.

He left the British Army in 2014 after 23 years and started coaching that year, which is where the date on the wordmark comes from. He has competed since, through British titles, a world championship and a Mr Universe.

The way he coaches came mostly from getting it wrong himself: too much volume, too little food and ignored niggles that turned into injuries. He does not believe more is automatically better.

§05 Questions
Common questions

Before you book

What does an online personal trainer do?

An online personal trainer builds your training and food around your real week, reviews how it went at a weekly check in, and changes the plan when there is a reason to. You do the sessions yourself, wherever you train, and message Paul directly on WhatsApp in between.

Do I have to be in Newcastle?

No. Paul is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, but all coaching is online, so it works the same anywhere in the UK and you will never need to travel to train with him.

Why are there no prices for the ongoing coaching?

Because the honest answer depends on your situation, and quoting a number before understanding it helps nobody. Price is covered on the 15 minute call, once there is enough to go on to tell you what you actually need.

What happens on the 15 minute call?

You talk through where you are now, what you have tried, and what your week looks like in practice. It is a conversation, not a pitch. At the end you will know whether this is a fit, and if it is not, you will be told so plainly.

I have not trained properly in years. Is that a problem?

No, that is the usual starting point. Most people who come to CAL.507 trained at some stage, stopped when work and family took over, and are trying to get back in without their week falling apart. Starting from nothing is normal here.

How long before I see a change?

That depends almost entirely on how closely you stick to the plan, which is why nobody honest puts a number on a website. What Paul can tell you, once he knows your starting point and what your week actually allows, is what is realistic for you. That is what the free call is for.

Fifteen minutes is all it takes to find out

A free discovery call. Where you are now, what has got in the way before, and whether this is the right fit. No pressure to sign up to anything.
